Warriors suffer defeat to Leyton

Charnwood Rutland Warriors travelled to London this weekend to face Leyton as they looked to bounce back after defeat in their last match.

They had the privilege of playing in the Cooper Box Arena, which was an amazing experience for their squad and one they won’t forget. After a close start Warriors finished the quarter just behind with the score 12-10 to Leyton.

With numerous players out due to injury, the team adapted well making turn overs and converting to stage a comeback. The second quarter was a narrow one, each team worked endlessly to try and capitalise on a lead however Leyton took this one by only two goals with the score 25-23 at half time.

Pushing on through to the third quarter Warriors made a few injury time changes with Rachel Duckers on at GA, and as a team again they came together with a new line-up hoping to take a lead. However, Leyton pushed on and ended the third quarter 40-31 lead.

After a regroup at quarter time Warriors saw the changes in the attacking end with Sam Griffin coming onto wing attack and Katie Welsh at centre. The team pushed right to the end against Leyton however they were unable to close the gap with the final scoring finishing 52-42 to Leyton.

Despite the loss it was another great performance from the team adapting to a lot of injury-enforced changes. The defence turned over a lot of ball whilst the attack worked the ball patiently through court. With a new circle defence it was a positive game and a lot to take away ready to refocus for next week.
