Warriors had their first home match of 2020 season this weekend which ended in defeat against a tough Exeter side 46-43.

Going into the match Warriors knew the return leg would be a challenge and adding to the challenge they were missing five of their squad but this meant they could give some other youngsters an opportunity to take to the court.. The first quarter was evenly matched with both teams finding their feet, Warriors young GS Braithwaite settled into the team nicely with Exeter just edging in-front 11-10.

Warriors defence McGlynn, Hymas and Oakham worked tirelessly in the 2nd quarter with Alexander and Griffin linking well through court Warriors edged ahead 22-21 at half time. In the third quarter Exeter stepped the pace up again turning over early balls against Warriors to put them under pressure. Duckers and Welsh worked hard in attack but struggled to find Braithwaite against Exeter’s strong defence and Exeter took a bigger lead running into the final quarter 37-31 up.

Warriors came out firing in the last 15 minutes turning over ball and bringing the game back within 1 goal in the final five minutes. However Exeter’s super GS and rapid WA and WD were having none of it and found their composure and connection to finish the match off and take the win 46-43.

A really competitive match until the final whistle, Warriors still sit at the top of the table but will be looking for a win after the two week break.
